Nepal is paradise for bird lovers as it consists of more than 875 species of birds which is 8% of total birds in the world and among these 875 species 495 species are found in Kathmandu valley itself. In Nepal the migratory birds come from the distant land of Siberia. The well known birdwathing destinations in Kathmandu are Pulchowki, Godavari, Nagarjun and Baghmati River.

 

So, dig up for your binoculars and start your journey to eyewitness these beautiful creatures. Some common species of birds you will see here are Stork, Pheasants, Cuckoo, Crow, Cormorant, Egret, Black Ibis, Eagle, Falcon, Duck, Chukar, Partridge, Sarus crane, Lapwing pigeon, Bengal green pigeon, Dove, Parakeet, Koel cuckoo, Owl, Vulture, Peafowl, Red jungle fowl, Swallow, Black drong, Blue Jay, Wood pecker, Black headed shrike, Common Myna, Red vented bulbul, Paradise flycatcher, Brahminy duck, House sparrow, Red myna and Hawk. The other locations beside Kathmandu known for bird watching are Chitwan National Park, Pokhara and Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve.

Nepal Main Bird Watching Places:

Pokhara:

In Pokhara, the two well known lakes Phewa Tal and Begnas Tal and the surrounding places  are mainly recommended. Of exacting interest are the places with minimum turbulence, away from human inhabitation the forests around the south of Phewa Tal Look out in the fields and pools mainly in the winter for Egrets, Herons, Pipits, and Buntings etc. other birds are stirring are Gulls, Terns, Ducks, and Falcons etc.Begnas Tal is 13km  far away from Pokhara  city and  easily reached by taxi or bicycle. Accommodations are available here also. Terraced hills and brightness forests surround the lake.

 

We will spend time on the slopes and wet fields. Birds sighted here are Ducks, pheasant-tailed jacana; Hoppie Grey bellied Thesis, common pintail snipe, bulbuls etc. Pokhara lakeside is essentially a tourist hub, which caters to all the needs f guests. From standard hotel to expensive 5star hotels are available in  Pokhara. Lakeside is the center location of . Pokhara   we will be reached by air or by land. Bird watching time is the best of April and October.

 

The Kathmandu Valley:

Kathmandu has four mainr bird watching places, and one can start on the banks of the Bagmati and Manohara khola. Birds sighted along there rivers are the  herons, Kingfishers, Ibis bill, Wood Sandpipers and Plovers. The Chovar Gorge is mainly recommended places for birds its loneliness from human territory has encouraged their being there.

 

Shivapuri  Wildlife Reserve, & Nagarjun:

Two other places  of the valley are the Shivapuri Watershed Reserve, 1okm north of the city, and Nagarjun in the North West . Shiva puri we will  be reached two ways either from Sundarijal or from Budhanilkantha. The reserve is managed by Nepalese Army and it costs Rs 250 for tourist entry fee. (Rs1000 is charged for a movie or video camera). Some of the birds in the places are the Laughing Thrush,  Serpent Eagle, little Pied Fly Catchers, , and Babblers. At Nagarjun at 2095m pheasants, magpies  and ruby throats are found.

 

Phulchowki:

Phulchowki is another model place , with a Redheaded Trojan, a very rate bird sighted there in April 2002 it was last seen n Nepal 42 years ago Phulchowki is 2735m and 15kms southeast of Kathmandu and is reached via Godavari and the Botanical Gardens. Walking will be  start from behind the gardens, with a mixture of trails and roads. The hillside is covered with forest featuring excellent flora as well as diverse birds. About 88 sorts  have been recorded in this place  including the  common spring babbler, also  the Curia, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Bellied Pied Woodpeckers and the Black-throated Parrot bill, to name a few.

 

 Royal Chit wan National Park

Chitwan is in the lowlands of Nepal  and    lies in  Terai Region. The  Chitwan National park is the one  of the  best place  in Nepal for birds lover . Bird lover  need to be done from the carefully of a manage, the back of an elephant or in a jeep  drive for  the last choice And if  we  wish to walk, accompany by a guide or a naturalist, or if possible an ornithologist. The spot consists of  hard wood Sal Forest , elephant grass   and grasslands, with three rivers forming the borders of the park. Some 468 species have been recorded in park  and a few of them are Blue Indian Roller,  Kingfishers, Bengal Florican, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Bee-eater, Cormorant

One of the best ways of viewing birds in Nepal is a easy trek through the foothills of the Himalayan republic country Nepal. Day to Day Itinerary

From Tribhuvan International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel room. In the afternoon you can roam around Thamel and we will invite you to our office for briefing about the each day program.

After having breakfast we will visit Pashupatinath Swoyambhunath and Boudhanath. We too will pay our visit to Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square which are adorned with fascinating ancient art and architecture. All these sites are recognized by UNESCO’s world heritage site.

Have breakfast and visit to Godavari Botanical Garden for bird watching. In the afternoon we will have city tour and again in the evening visit Godavari Botanical Garden for bird watching.

After having breakfast we will pack our lunch and hike uphill to Phulchowki. Here we can witness 84 different species of birds. We will spend the whole day here.

In the similar manner we will visit Shivapuri National Park to watch birds. Spend the night at hotel in Kathmandu.

After having breakfast we will drive for Chitwan and check in the hotel. After having lunch there we will visit Tharu village and Elephant breeding center.

Early morning in the morning we will go for a bird watching tour. Before returning to the hotel we will do canoeing in the Rapati River. After having lunch we will do Jungle safari in Elephant back.

After having breakfast drive from Chitwan to Kathmandu. You can utilize the afternoon by doing family shopping.
