Helambu Trek

Helambu Trek is one of the best treks in the Langtang region. Helambu trek offers us the grand view of magnificent Himalayas, majestic waterfalls, diverse range of flora and fauna, awe inspiring green valleys and vibrant difference between Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist culture. This trek mostly constitute of low altitude the highest altitude in this trek is Tharepati (3,480m).Helumbu trek offers you a chance to experience the Yolmo culture which is practiced in high mountains, meet Tamang and Sherpa who are known for their hospitality and friendly nature and forest consisting of rhododendron, oak and bamboo which makes Helambu trek the diverse trail that is nearest to Kathmandu valley.  Regardless of its location so near to Kathmandu you will still experience the remoteness it will serve.  Helumbu trek kick starts from Sundarijal which is situated one hour drive from Kathmandu.  After one hour walk in Sundarijal region we will enter Shivapuri national park. Following the trail along Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang the trek ultimately comes to an end at Melamchi pul Bazaar in the Helambu region. Melamchi is known for the grand water supply project which is supposed to quench thirst of Kathmandu folks thorough the series of tunnels.   As we come to the end of the trip we will trek through some moving planned rice terrace in the slopes and few striking Buddhists monasteries.

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu

From Tribhuban International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel room. In the afternoon you can explore around Thamel and you will invite you to our office for briefing about the each day program.

Day 02:   Drive to Sundarijal & trek to Chisapani (2300m) Trek: 4 hours

Today, you make an hour's drive to Sundarijal (1350m), our trek start point. From Sundarijal, trek to Chisopani (2300m). You begin our trek along a small hydroelectric plant. The trail then enters through into the Shivapuri National Park.  The first settlement we come across is Mulkharka mostly inhabited by the Tamang people. Then you walk along the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani.

Day 03:   Trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang (2446m) 7 hours

After taking our morning breakfast, you head for a journey to Kutumsang. Your today's trek starts with a decent crossing meadows and fields. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Langtang Mountains. Thus you arrive at Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang. From Gul Bhanjyang, the trail climbs the ridge to another pass. Another downhill trek from the pass takes us to Kutumsang.

Day 04:   Trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati (3650m) 6 hours

you climb above Kutumsang on a steep trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trek continues to Yurin Danda with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Finally, we arrive at Tharepati for our overnight stay.

Day 05:   Trek from Thadepati to Tarkeghyang (2560m) 6 hrs

Today you head for Tarkeghyang. During early part of the trek, the trail descends until you cross the Melamchi Khola. Then you trek up to Tarkeghyang passing through Sherpa settlements. Enjoy the Himalayan peaks ofter appear before you glistening in the sunshine. Discover the village and its monastery which is one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the region. The village is more popularly known as Helambu, since most of the inhabitants belong to the Helmu caste.

Day 06:  Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m) 3/4 hrs

Since, you do not gain altitude that much today; it's going to be comparatively easy walk and you forests, streams, and waterfalls. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the Sherpa village of Gangyul.  From Gangyul, you arrive at Sermathang. Discover the village. There is also a Buddhist monastery at the highest point of the village.

Day 07:  Trek to Malemchi Puul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 3 hrs trek/ 2 hr drive

On our final day of the trek, you walk down to Malemchi Pul Bazaar. The village is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa, but there are also people of other ethnicities.  From the Bazaar, you catch a bus drive to Katmandu and transfer your hotel.

Day 08:   Departure for your onwards flight
