Altitude sickness and prevention

Even though altitude sickness issues arise past 3,000 meters, you're less likely to get altitude sickness in Langtang Region Trekking.

The main reason for altitude sickness is rapid ascend and high altitude terrain. But you'll start the trek in Langtang Trek with a drive from Kathmandu. As you'll start this trek from a very low altitude, with a gradual hike, even without acclimatization, your body adapts well en route.

Furthermore, acclimatization rest at Kyanjin gives you an ideal time to adapt the body to the increasing altitude.

The symptoms of altitude sickness include headaches, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, uncontrollable body movements, and more. Please report to your trek guide immediately if you feel any of these. However, if you're on a solo Langtang Trek, you must be prepared to deal with such occasions. It would help if you had a decent physical condition, critical decision-making, and emergency rescue plans.

Good meals, rest, and rehydration are the main components to avoid altitude sickness. Also, avoiding coffee, alcohol, and smoking on the trek helps you escape altitude sickness. Furthermore, consuming medicines like Diamox keeps you away from mountain sickness.

Trek grade, Physical fitness and preparation

Langtang valley trek and other treks in the region are moderate to strenuous grades if you're crossing Ganja La Pass.  Thus, physical fitness is crucial for Langtang Valley Trek, Langtang Valley Gosaikunda Lake Trek, and Helambu Trek.

As you need to hike for five to six hours each day on the trek route, you must be fit enough to continue the hike. On top, you'll walk for seven to eleven days, depending on which Langtang Region Trekking you choose.

Cardio is among the best exercises to practice and prepare for this trek. Mini hikes and marathons a few months before this trek is an advantage.

Furthermore, mental strength is equally important to complete the trek. You must have the best physical and psychological status for Langtang Trek in 2023.

When to plan Langtang Region Trekking?

To make it concise, the best time for Langtang Valley Trek is from March to May and from September to November. The clear weather, gentle temperature, extended daylight, rain-free days, snow-filled landscapes, mountains, and vibrant vegetation make Spring and Autumn a favorite time for this trek.

Winter trek to Langtang is also doable, but it's not a recommended time. It'll be colder, and many tea houses remain closed during snowfall at higher altitudes.

Monsoon and summer, from June to August, could be better as it rains frequently. Moreover, the trekking route becomes slippery, avalanche prone, leaches and bugs, and clouds covering all the landscapes, ruining the trek experience.

Tip to langtang valley trek crew

You must tip 10% of the total cost you pay for the agency while buying the Langtang Trek package for trek guides and porters. You can also give them more than 10%, but it's the standard practice among trekkers.

Getting a tip from trekkers often motivates our trek guides and porters to keep doing the best services to clients like you.

Even if you're not with the agency, upon hiring a porter, you must tip him too. Individual trekkers who hire a trekking guide or porter or both must give a tip to the trek crews.

Why should you choose the local travel agency for Langtang Region Trekking in 2023?

First, a local agency like Adventure Nepal Eco Treks operates every tour with proper planning, utilizing the decade-long trekking experience. The handpicked itinerary with additional space for customisation gives you a fantastic opportunity to cater your itinerary.

Second, the trek guides and porters will assist you throughout the trek. Even if you can hike alone, you may encounter unforeseen, fatal conditions. Also, getting tea houses during the hike can be challenging, especially if you're independent and during the Spring and Autumn, the peak trekking season. Hence, a trekking guide takes your 24/7 care and does everything to make your trip successful.

Too, in most cases, you may spend more money on a trek than a local agency offers. The local agency provides three meals daily, any meal of your choice. But, on independent trekking, you'll end up paying more when you have to eat meals of your choice. Hence, meals and accommodation are also another advantages of taking a local agency.

Moreover, you'll get 24/7 support from our tour manager. You may need helicopter evacuations that only a local agency can manage during emergencies.

In the past, long before tea house-based trekking, trekkers used to practise camping-style accommodation while trekking in Langtang Region Trekking. They used to experience the Tamang people, their culture, religion, and lifestyle.

But now, their core traditions and culture alone have become a thing to witness and experience. Trekkers choose Helambu Trek and hike to places like Tembathan, Kutumsang and Tharepati to explore the Tamang villages.

What to expect in Tamang Heritage Trek in Langtang Region Trekking?

Tamang Heritage Trek is almost an off-the-beaten Langtang Region Trekking. The rural Poverty Alleviation Program (RPAP) tourism program initiated this new style of trekking that includes scenic Langtang hikes and the enriched Tamang culture.

Tamang people's lifestyle, cultures, languages, traditions, and festivals are the highlights of the Tamang Heritage Trek. Since many here are of Tibetan descent, it'd be joyful to experience the Tibetan cum Nepali Tamang cultural blend.

On numerous occasions, Tamang people here perform various rituals and cultural acts. Some popular activities include Lhosar, Buddha Purnima, Buddha's birth date, and various activities to honour deceased loved ones. Also, the multiple actions of singing, dancing, and different meals and drinks make these programs further entertaining.
