Short Note:All the Domestic airlines flights to Lukla operated via Ramechhap-Manthali- Airport from the 1st of October 2022
The first day of your 10-day Everest Base Camp Itinerary begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla in 40 minutes. There are few flights from Kathmandu to Lukla due to air traffic regulations, and as of this, you may not get a direct flight from Kathmandu.
So, you'll take an early morning drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap airport for 4-5 hours. And then, you'll fly from Ramechhap airport to Lukla airport for 20 minutes. The flight is scenic as you'll see beautiful landscapes, terraces, and mountains in the Everest region before landing at the world's most adventurous airport, Luka.
Many consider Lukla airport a risky airport to land at, but no such risk factor is associated with it. And if you want to avoid the flight, you can also take Kathmandu to Lukla Helicopter Flight from Adventure Nepal Eco Treks.
After landing at Lukla, depending on how early you'll land, you'll take breakfast or lunch at Lukla. After some rest and preparations, you'll trek to Phakding via beautiful settlements like Chaurikharka, Ghat, and Phakding.
Phakding is just 6.2 km from Lukla, and the trekking route is easy as you'll hike on flat terrain for most parts. And while walking, you'll enjoy the cascading Dudh Koshi and lush semi-alpine vegetation en route.Overnight at the tea house in Phakding.
You'll start the hike around 8 am after having a decent breakfast at the tea house in Phakding. You may feel some cold for an hour from Phakding as the towering hills around Phakding block the sunlight. But upon reaching ToTok, you'll get the sunrays and continue hiking warmly.
You'll cross four suspension bridges on your third-day Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary hike. And all the bridges are above the rushing Dudh Koshi River, a major river in the Khumbu region. And amidst all, the Hillary bridge at Larch Dovan, at 2,935 meters, is the most thrilling as it's insignificant height, and the wind blows pretty hard as you hike.
You'll hike through beautiful settlements past Phakding, ToTok, Monjo, and Jorsale. You'll stop at Monjo Trekker's checkpost to verify the Everest Base Camp Trek Permit. And after a ten minute hike from Monjo, you'll reach Jorsale and stop for lunch.
From Jorsale, you'll hike for two and a half hours to Namche Bazaar. The trekking route progresses on the Dudh Koshi river shore for half an hour, and then you ascend to Namche. Past Larcha Dovan till Namche, you'll gain nearly 500 meters in altitude.
You'll reach Namche Bazaar around 3 pm, and it may get cold as this region gets covered by fog after 1 or 2 pm.Overnight at the tea house at Namche Bazaar.
The fourth-day hike on Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary takes you from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche or Deboche, a five-hour walk, and a 9.2 km distance away.
You'll hike on a relatively comfortable trekking route on the fourth day till Punke Thanka. And past Punke Thanka, you'll ascend for the rest of the hike till Tengboche.
After leaving Namche, you'll hike on a moderately straight trekking route for two hours. You'll then descend to the Dudh Koshi River shore and stop at Punke Thanka for lunch.
After lunch at Punke Thanka, you'll cross a suspension bridge, check in at the trekker checkpoint, and continue the ascent to Tengboche. As it'll be a sunny day, you may feel the heat and sweat more. Hence, stop multiple times for rehydration.
Tengboche Monastery will be the first thing you'll witness at Tengboche. Also, Ama Dablam appears close to Tengboche. As it's the best place to stay overnight, you may not get the tea houses during peak Everest trekking season. Hence, you may have to hike further to Deboche and stop for overnight accommodation.
Deboche will be the last place to take a hot water shower. Above Deboche, it'll be freezing, and it's not good to shower.Overnight at the tea house at Tengboche or Deboche, depending on the trekker's crowds.
The hike from Tengboche to Dingboche on the fifth day of Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary is a long day hike, around 12 km for nearly 6 hours. But the walk becomes impressive as you hike alongside the beautiful Ama Dablam.
After breakfast, you'll start the hike at around 8 am to Dingboche. After some minutes, you'll cross a bridge and continue walking on the most amazing trekking trails. One hour hike from the bridge takes you to Pangboche village, which looks spectacular with the Ama Dablam mountain on the panorama. You can stop for tea or a rehydration break here.
Another one-and-a-half-hour or a two-hour hike from Pangboche will take you to Somare, where you'll stop for lunch.Past Somare, you may get cold due to the cold wind. But the fantastic landscapes keep you entertained.
The trekking route from Somare remains relatively comfortable till Dingboche, except for the final ascent from the Tsola River Bridge. When you reach Dingboche, it may be cold due to clouds and fog, which usually covers the region past 3 pm.
Dingboche is the best place to view the sunset over Ama Dablam mountain, as it'll turn pink with the setting sun's rays. Overnight at the best available tea house in Dingboche.
You'll start feeling high-altitude terrain and thinning oxygen as you hike to Lobuche on the 7th day of 12 day Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary. Significantly, the Thugla Pass or the hike from tea houses at Thugla to Lobuche memorial tires you immensely.
The beautiful morning starts with breakfast at a tea house in Dingboche. You'll start the hike around 8 am on a trail to Thugla, which is easy and flat in most parts. And you'll hike on trial on the left above Pheriche. The marvelous glimpses of Cholatse, Ama Dablam, and peaks en route to Cho La Pass accompany you till Thugla.
You'll stop at tea houses in Thugla after crossing the Lobujya River, a stream of melted Khumbu Glacier. You'll have lunch at the tea house in Thugla before climbing Thugla Pass.
Thugla pass is merely a kilometer distance, but the high altitude effect kicks in, and you'll get tired quickly. Here, rehydration and multiple rests are a must.
After reaching the Lobuche memorial, you'll hike on a flat trail to the Lobuche settlement. You'll also get the rock face of Lhotse and the amazing Pumori in front.Overnight at the tea house in Lobuche
The hike from Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp is the ultimate day of the Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary. It is the day you've waited and hiked for. After breakfast at the tea house in Lobuche, you'll begin the hike to Gorak Shep. Mostly, you'll hike on the glacier moraines of Khumbu Glacier. Hence, the walk can be strenuous and tiring.
You'll reach Gorak Shep after a 3 hour hike from Lobuche. Gorak Shep sits in a Khumbu Glacier Moraine, and the setting can also fascinate you. You'll stop for lunch and rest at a tea house in Lobuche. Leaving your backpacks at the tea houses, you'll hike to Everest Base Camp and return to Gorak Shep for another three to four hours.
The amazing Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Khumbutse, and entire Everest panorama becomes magical when viewed from Everest Base Camp. You'll have a fantastic photo opportunity here when the mid-day weather is terrific.
For the best glimpse of Everest, you'll hike to Kala Patthar vantage at 5,644 meters tomorrow.Overnight at a tea house in Gorak Shep.
You'll hike to the Kala Patthar vantage point in the early morning, starting the hike around 4 am before sunrise. The walk can be strenuous and freezing, but you'll get extraordinary glimpses of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and other mountains in the sunrise colors.
You'll hike down to Gorak Shep for breakfast and prepare for the return to Pheriche. You'll hike on the same trail you hiked up to Gorak Shep. You'll reach Lobuche after two hours of a hike from Gorak Shep and another hour from Lobuche to Thugla. You'll stop at Thugla for lunch before hiking down to Pheriche.
The descent hike will be more leisurely for you as you'll start breathing more air. But remember to keep the pace steady as you may slip on the Peebles on the trail. You'll reach Pheriche after a two and half hour's hike from Thugla.Overnight at the tea house in Pheriche.
It's a long way back to Namche Bazaar from Pheriche, but it will be manageable as you descend for most parts. And on the 10th day of your standard Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary from Pheriche to Namche, your lungs can feel the lungs full of the semi-alpine region's fresh air again.
After breakfast at a tea house in Pheriche, you'll leave for Namche early. The first stop will be Somare for tea and a rehydration break. From Somare, you'll reach Pangboche within an hour with an excellent glimpse of Ama Dablam on the backdrop.
You can stop for lunch at Pangboche or Tengboche, depending on how early you get hungry. But lunch at Tengboche is highly recommended. You'll get the chance to enjoy a decent day's meal with the best panorama of Everest for one last time.
From Tengboche Monastery, you'll reach Punge Thanka in an hour, where you can stop for a tea break. From Punke Thanka to Sansa, the trail ascends pretty, and this section takes nearly one hour for you.
And after Sansa, you'll hike to Namche on a relatively flat trekking route. By the time you'll reach Namche, it'll be around 4 pm. And taking a hot shower followed by ginger lemon at a tea house in Namche would be the best therapy.
