At the foot of the mountainThe national flowers of Nepal Rhododendrons are attracting attention. The footpaths of this area, the waterfalls flowing through them and the musical sounds of the birds heard while walking along the forest path will fascinate anyone. Every year thousands of foreign and local tourists come to Kanchenjunga region to enjoy this beauty.

Foreigners with sticks in their hands and cameras on their shoulders can be found on the footpaths here. Kanchenjunga region is rich in natural beauty and biological diversity. According to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, only 85 foreign tourists visited the Ghunsa area at the entrance of Kanchenjunga last week. The tourism business, which has slowed down for a long time after the corona epidemic, is slowly returning to the rhythm. Four hundred and thirty-nine foreign tourists have visited in the last four months.

In the fiscal year 2020-2021, 386 male and 186 female foreign tourists came to Kanchenjunga region in the statistics of the council. 25 male and four female tourists from South Asian countries came here.There are statistics that 799 foreign tourists came to tour in 1998. In the year 2001, 873 and 11 thousand 197 foreign tourists visited the Kanchenjunga Mountain from 2000 to 2021.

Two footpaths (walking routes) are being used to reach the Kanchenjunga base camp. Tourists reach the base camp of Kanchenjunga Himal through Ganesh Chowk of Panchthar and Sirijungha Rural Municipality of Taplejung. Kanchenjunga base camp can be reached by air from Kathmandu to Suketer Airport in Taplejung and using the road of Paktanglung Rural Municipality.

Australian citizen Caron Milney spent four months in the Kanchenjunga Himalayan region last year. While living in Kanchenjunga area, Milni said, "I have been to Nepal six times. Nepal's natural beauty is amazing, its culture and traditions are also exemplary in the world. The natural beauty here always draws me to Nepal. That is why I have come to visit Nepal six times.

According to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, there are 52 small and big investment hotels operating on the footpath to Kanchenjunga Himal targeting tourists coming to Kanchenjunga. Singi Namjong Hotel, built with an investment of more than seven million rupees, has come into operation in Paktanglung Rural Municipality-6 Gapla.

Jiten Chemzong, assistant coordinator of the program of the council, said that four hotels built at an investment of more than 1 million rupees are operating at an altitude of 3,500 meters to 4,500 meters above sea level. According to him, other hotels are operating with an investment of Rs 80 lakh and above.

Hotels have been opened with huge investment targeting tourists in Fungling Bazar, the Samdarmukkam of Taplejung. With the increase in the number of tourists, the tourism and hoteliers here are excited. The main businesses of the Kanchenjunga conservation area community are tourism, hotels and animal husbandry.

Jiten Chemzong, the council's program assistant, says that every household in the tourist areas of Ghunsa, Fale and Yamfudin is directly linked to tourism. Some have become self-employed by operating hotels, while others have been earning good income by helping tourists. Since there is no agriculture in these areas, recently the young generation seems to be attracted towards tourism rather than animal husbandry.

According to Mingma David Sherpa of Elite Expedition Group, about 300 people including more than 50 foreigners and their helpers will gather at the base camp for the Kanchenjunga climb. According to tourism professionals, the climbers from Southern Mohada are preparing to reach the base camp next week.

Trekkers have already started reaching the Ghunsa base camp in the Kanchenjunga area. Sherpa also said that because the footpath is bad, preparations are being made to bring food and materials for the expedition by helicopter.Kanchenjunga was climbed for the first time on May 25, 1955. According to the council, there is no reliable data on how many climbers have successfully climbed the Kanchenjunga Mountain so far.

In collaboration with the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, the rich mountain has been working in the area of tourism promotion and financial access for a long time. Chitra Kumari Chansu, program coordinator of the project informed that this program is going to prepare a master plan targeting Yasang, Kengsra, Torongden, Andhafedi, Cheram and Ramjer which are the tourist trails in the southern trek route of Kanchenjunga region.

Sir Gram Wrigley, the donor of the rich mountains and the chairman of the Himalayan Trust UK, who is financially supporting this program with his own investment, discussed the framework of tourism promotion and development in the Kanchenjunga area with the officials of the council and also visited the site last Chaitra. On that occasion, he stressed on infrastructure development and promotion to make this region the best tourist destination in the world.
