Chisapani–Nagarkot Hiking/Trekking – Scenic Ridge Walk Near Kathmandu
The Chisapani–Nagarkot hiking/trekking trail is one of the most rewarding short treks in Nepal, combining panoramic Himalayan views, lush landscapes, and cultural villages—all within a short distance from Kathmandu. This tranquil journey is ideal for travelers who want to escape the city and immerse themselves in nature without committing to long expeditions.
The trek usually begins with a short drive to Sundarijal, followed by a scenic ascent through Shivapuri National Park. As you walk under a canopy of oak and rhododendron trees, the sounds of chirping birds and gushing streams accompany you. Reaching Chisapani (2,135m), trekkers are greeted with breathtaking mountain views, especially at sunrise, when peaks like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Dorje Lakpa light up the horizon.
On the second day, the trail meanders through peaceful villages, terraced fields, and dense woodlands, offering glimpses of traditional hill life. The path is dotted with ancient shrines, rustic tea houses, and smiling locals. As you gradually ascend to Nagarkot (2,175m), one of Nepal’s most famous hill stations, the views open up to a full Himalayan panorama—including Everest on a clear day.
Nagarkot is the perfect place to unwind after a day’s trek. With cozy lodges, warm meals, and a wide-open sky, it’s a favorite spot for sunrise and sunset photography. From Nagarkot, trekkers can either drive back to Kathmandu or extend their adventure to Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in art and history.
The Chisapani–Nagarkot trek is a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and comfort, suitable for beginners, families, and nature enthusiasts alike. It offers the essence of Nepal’s trekking charm—soothing trails, majestic mountains, and heartfelt hospitality—within just a few days.
