Yala Peak (5,732m) is a non-technical trekking peak located in the Langtang region of Nepal, near the Tibetan border. It offers breathtaking views of Shishapangma (8,013m), Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, and other Himalayan peaks.

Yala Peak is considered a relatively easy trekking peak, ideal for beginners. While it doesn’t require technical mountaineering skills, climbers should be physically fit and prepared for high-altitude trekking and basic ice/snow climbing.

The best seasons are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) when the weather is clear, and temperatures are stable. Winter (December-February) is also possible but requires extra preparation due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold.

You need the following permits:

Langtang National Park Entry Permit (USD 30 per person)

TIMS Card (USD 20 per person for individual trekkers, USD 10 for group trekkers)

Yala Peak Climbing Permit (USD 250 for Spring, USD 125 for Autumn, and USD 70 for Winter/Summer)

Teahouses/Lodges: Available along the Langtang Valley trek up to Kyanjin Gompa. Basic but comfortable.

Camping: Required at Yala Peak Base Camp with tents, sleeping bags, and a fully supported kitchen team.

Teahouses serve traditional Nepali (Dal Bhat), Tibetan, and basic Western meals such as noodles, pasta, soups, momos, eggs, and porridge. At Base Camp, meals are prepared by the trekking team, typically including rice, soup, vegetables, and tea.

No, prior climbing experience is not required, but basic knowledge of using ice axes, crampons, and rope techniques is beneficial. A pre-climb briefing and basic training will be provided at Base Camp.

 

You should train at least 2-3 months in advance with:

Cardio workouts (running, cycling, hiking)

Strength training (leg and core exercises)

Altitude training (if possible)

Trekking with a backpack (long hikes to build endurance)

Climbing gear: Crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, ropes (provided by the trekking company)

Clothing: Down jacket, thermal layers, waterproof gloves, trekking boots

Other essentials: Sleeping bag (-15°C rated), sunglasses, sunscreen, trekking poles
