“Fantastic trip and great value too!” Nov 2013

We did the Everest Base camp trek arranged by Devi Baral of Adventure Nepal Eco Treks and had a fantastic experience. The price came in several hundred euros better than any other operator we researched and was truly authentic experience.

We traveled as a couple and had our own guide, Kumar, and our porter, Sheer, who provided us with hours of fun, information and entertainment. Kumar couldn't do enough for us. He spoke English and Spanish fluently, and taught us plenty of Nepali words along the way too. A language course and trek together!

Devi met us at the airport on the way over and was there for us every time we had to move from A to B. He even took us out for a complementary meal on our last evening and asked us for feedback on the whole experience. We would highly recommend Adventure Nepal Eco Treks to anyone thinking of Trekking in Nepal.

"There is actually nothing negative to say” February 2013

I found Devi and his company Adventure Nepal Eco Treks while I was already in Nepal one day as I was emailing countless number of company's expressing my interest to go trekking. Devi's reply was quick, professional and not pushy like I found most other replies to be...also the English was a very good standard compared to most of the other replies. Fm the reply, I had a good vibe and knew this was the right company to go with. I visited him in his office, and a week later I was in a plane flying to Lukla with my dad and our guide Kumar, ready to go to Everest base camp.

Kumar was an amazing guide, very knowledgable of the area and everything around us. At night, we would chat, play cards, have fun and just enjoy each and everyone's company. Along with our porter, they would take care of everything, meaning that the only thing my dad and I had to worry about was ourselves and getting through each day!

I would defiantly recommended Devi to anyone wanting to go trekking as he took care of everything and made everything easy to organise. I know if I ever come back to Nepal I will go back to adventure Nepal eco treks!

“Devi is laid back and happy to help rather than push” 12 January 2013

Looking at the older reviews I'm not sure there is much I can add.

We found Adventure Nepal Eco Trekking Company after emailing a number of trekking firms. Most we ruled out straight way because their replies left us feeling we were going to be taken for ride. Devi's reply was professional from the start. We did find some other companies may have been a few dollars cheaper but right from the start we had a good feeling about Adventure Nepal Eco Trek.

Devi arranged a personalized 16 day trekking tour including Gokyo and Everest Base Camp. He arranged everything we wanted him too. We opted to exclude food and lodging from the package and this was no problem. (I'm told that high session greeting a room in the trekking lodges can difficult unless who have guide with the right connections.)

Our guide, Kumar, was great and easy to get along with. His knowledge of the mountains and trekking was the key to a safe and enjoyable trip. Even as the days went by we adjusted our plan to reflect the weather (snow falls had closed the Cho La pass) and own wishes and priorities.

I'm certainly happy to recommend Adventure Nepal Eco Trekking Company to any of my friends.

FAQs

Yes, you can obtain a Nepal visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at several land border crossings if you're arriving by land. Most nationalities are eligible for a visa on arrival, including tourists planning to trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar.

Here are some key points to know about obtaining a Nepal visa on arrival:

Eligibility: Nationals of most countries are eligible for a Nepal visa on arrival. However, there are a few exceptions, so it's advisable to check the current visa requirements for your nationality before traveling.

Duration and Fees: The duration and fees for Nepal visas on arrival vary depending on the length of stay. As of my last update, tourists can obtain a 15-day, 30-day, or 90-day visa on arrival. The visa fees also vary accordingly. Payments for the visa can be made in various currencies such as US dollars, euros, pounds sterling, or Nepalese rupees.

Visa Application Process: Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or the designated land border crossing, you'll need to fill out a visa application form and submit it along with a valid passport, passport-sized photos, and the appropriate visa fee. Visa application forms are available at the airport or border entry points.

Extension: If you plan to extend your stay in Nepal beyond the duration of the visa on arrival, you can apply for a visa extension at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or other immigration offices in Nepal. Visa extensions are granted for an additional fee, and you must apply before your current visa expires.

Other Entry Requirements: In addition to the visa, make sure you have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining from the date of entry into Nepal. You may also be required to show proof of onward travel and provide details of your accommodation in Nepal.

Overall, obtaining a Nepal visa on arrival is a straightforward process and allows you to start your Everest Kalapathar Trek without any prior visa arrangements. However, it's essential to check the current visa requirements and fees before traveling to Nepal, as regulations may change over time.

The Everest Kalapathar Trek is a popular trekking route in the Everest region of Nepal. It's renowned for offering stunning views of Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak, as well as other majestic Himalayan peaks. The trek typically starts from Lukla and follows the trail through picturesque Sherpa villages, lush forests, and rugged terrain.

The highlight of the trek is reaching Kalapathar, a famous vantage point located at an altitude of around 5,550 meters (18,208 feet). From here, trekkers can witness breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and numerous other peaks. The sunrise view from Kalapathar is particularly spectacular.

The Everest Kalapathar Trek usually takes around 12 to 14 days to complete, depending on the itinerary and pace of the trekker. It's considered moderately challenging due to high altitudes and some steep ascents, but it's achievable for most fit trekkers with proper acclimatization and preparation.

Yes, it's highly recommended to have travel insurance when embarking on the Everest Kalapathar Trek or any trekking adventure in Nepal. Travel insurance provides coverage for various unforeseen circumstances such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, evacuations, and loss or theft of belongings.

In the Everest region, where altitudes are high and medical facilities are limited, having travel insurance with adequate coverage for high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation is particularly crucial. If you encounter altitude sickness or other medical issues during the trek, evacuation by helicopter to a lower altitude or to a medical facility may be necessary, and this can be extremely costly without insurance.

Before purchasing travel insurance, ensure that it includes coverage for trekking at high altitudes (above 4,000 meters) and helicopter evacuation if needed. Additionally, carefully read the policy details to understand what is covered and any exclusions or limitations. It's also advisable to check with your insurance provider if they cover adventure activities like trekking in remote regions.

Ultimately, having travel insurance not only provides financial protection but also peace of mind, allowing you to fully enjoy your trekking experience without worrying about potential emergencies.

The best time to travel to Nepal for the Everest Kalapathar Trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May or the post-monsoon (autumn) season from late September to November. These months offer the most stable weather, clear skies, and better visibility of the mountains, making for an optimal trekking experience.

Here's a breakdown of the two main trekking seasons:

Spring (March to May):

Spring is considered one of the best times to trek in Nepal, including the Everest region. The weather is generally mild and dry, with warm days and cool nights. The rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in bloom during this time, adding color to the landscape. Trails are usually less crowded compared to the autumn season.
Autumn (Late September to November):

Autumn is another excellent time for the Everest Kalapathar Trek. The weather is stable with clear skies, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Days are warm and sunny, while nights are chilly. This season is also popular among trekkers, so trails and teahouses may be more crowded compared to spring.
Both seasons have their advantages, so the choice ultimately depends on your preferences and availability. Keep in mind that the winter months (December to February) are also possible for trekking, but it's colder, and some higher-altitude passes may be closed due to snow. Similarly, the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall and is not recommended for trekking in the Everest region due to poor visibility and slippery trails.

For trekkers embarking on the Everest Kalapathar Trek in Nepal, access to banking facilities may be limited along the trail due to its remote and rugged terrain. However, before starting the trek, it's advisable to take care of financial matters and ensure you have adequate funds and banking facilities for your journey. Here are some considerations:

Cash: Carry enough Nepalese rupees (NPR) in cash to cover your expenses during the trek. While some lodges and shops along the trail may accept credit/debit cards, cash is generally more reliable, especially in remote areas where card payment facilities may not be available.

ATMs: Before departing for the trek, it's recommended to withdraw cash from ATMs in Kathmandu or other major cities where banking facilities are more readily available. Lukla, the starting point of the Everest Kalapathar Trek, has a few ATMs, but they may have limited cash availability or may not work reliably due to power outages or other issues.

Credit/Debit Cards: While some lodges, teahouses, and shops along the Everest trekking route may accept credit or debit cards, it's not guaranteed. Additionally, network connectivity and power supply in remote areas can be intermittent, affecting card payment transactions. Therefore, it's wise to carry cash as the primary form of payment.

Currency Exchange: If you need to exchange foreign currency for Nepalese rupees, it's best to do so in Kathmandu or other major cities before starting the trek. Currency exchange services in remote areas along the Everest trail are scarce, and exchange rates may not be favorable.

Banking Services in Lukla: Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, has a few banks and financial institutions where you can inquire about banking services, exchange currency, and use ATMs. However, it's essential to be prepared for limited banking facilities and potential challenges such as long queues or ATM downtime.

Emergency Funds: It's advisable to carry some extra cash as emergency funds in case of unexpected expenses, such as medical emergencies or unforeseen circumstances requiring additional expenditures.

Overall, while banking facilities along the Everest Kalapathar Trek may be limited, proper planning and preparation can help ensure you have access to the necessary funds and financial services for a smooth trekking experience.

Booking your Everest Kalapathar Trek typically depends on several factors, including weather conditions, your personal schedule, and availability of permits and accommodations. Here are some guidelines to consider:

Best Time to Trek: The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from late September to November. During these months, the weather is generally stable, with clear skies and mild temperatures, making for optimal trekking conditions and excellent views of the Himalayas.

Peak Season: The peak trekking season in the Everest region is during the spring and autumn months when the weather is most favorable. As a result, accommodations along the trail can fill up quickly, especially in popular trekking months like April and October. If you plan to trek during these peak seasons, it's advisable to book your trek well in advance, preferably several months ahead of your intended departure date, to secure permits and accommodations.

Permit Requirements: Before embarking on the Everest Kalapathar Trek, you'll need to obtain the necessary permits, including the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card. These permits are typically obtained through registered trekking agencies in Kathmandu or through your trekking guide. It's essential to factor in the time needed to arrange these permits when planning your trek.

Availability of Guides and Porters: If you plan to hire a trekking guide or porter for your Everest Kalapathar Trek, it's advisable to book their services in advance, especially during the peak trekking season when their availability may be limited due to high demand.

Personal Schedule: Consider your personal schedule and availability when deciding when to book your trek. Make sure to allow yourself enough time for travel to Nepal, acclimatization days during the trek, and any post-trek activities or travel plans.

In summary, aim to book your Everest Kalapathar Trek several months in advance if you plan to trek during the peak seasons of spring and autumn. This allows you to secure permits, accommodations, and the services of guides or porters, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable trekking experience.

The cost of hiring a guide or porter varies depending on factors such as experience, duration of the trek, and negotiated rates. Budget around USD 30 per day for a guide and USD 25 per day for a porter, including their accommodation and meals.

Additional Expenses: You may encounter additional expenses along the trek, such as snacks, hot showers (where available), charging electronic devices, Wi-Fi access, and tips for guides and porters. Budget some extra money for these miscellaneous expenses.

Emergency Fund: It's always a good idea to carry some extra cash as an emergency fund for unexpected expenses, such as medical emergencies or unforeseen circumstances requiring additional expenditures.

It is not merely a distance measured in kilometers, but a pilgrimage traced by footfalls and heartbeats through some of the world’s most majestic landscapes. Every step taken on this path is a story unfolding: from the lush lowlands of Lukla at 2,800 meters, where emerald hills cradle misty mornings, to the austere, high-altitude sanctuary of Everest Base Camp itself at 5,364 meters. Here, the sheer scale of the Khumbu Icefall looms like an eternal sentinel of ice and stone. The distance is not only physical but deeply personal, marked by the rhythm of breath, the strain of muscles, and the unyielding pull of the world's highest peaks, drawing trekkers ever closer to the heart of the Himalayas.
